The Lucknow Division of the North Eastern Railway achieved a major milestone by successfully operating its inaugural Avadh Mahashakti freight train on Thursday, August 20, 2026. This landmark trial marked a significant step forward in Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to revolutionize freight logistics, enhance network capacity, and deliver faster transit times for goods transport across the region.
Key highlights of the Avadh Mahashakti freight train operation include:
– Three-in-one consolidation combining three individual freight rakes into a single mega formation.
– A massive formation consisting of 129 wagons hauled powerfully by three engines.
– The maiden route covered the journey from Gonda Junction to the Moradabad Division via Sitapur.
– Key objectives include boosting freight capacity, optimizing track usage, saving fuel, and reducing transit time.
Boosting Efficiency Through Innovation
The innovative consolidation strategy is designed to tackle heavy rail traffic congestion while maximizing the throughput of existing rail corridors. By merging three separate freight operations into one unified movement, the railway administration aims to provide much faster and highly economical logistics solutions to freight customers. Railway officials emphasized that this method significantly cuts down overall fuel consumption and slashes operational delays, directly contributing to an increase in total freight revenue for Indian Railways.
Leadership and Coordination
The successful execution of this mega freight operation was carried out under the visionary leadership of Divisional Railway Manager Gaurav Agarwal and meticulously managed by Senior Divisional Operations Manager (Coordination) Dr. Shilpi Kannaujia. Divisional Railway Manager Gaurav Agarwal personally credited the smooth run to the division’s exceptional management, robust inter-departmental coordination, and flawless execution on the ground. Public Relations Officer Mahesh Gupta officially confirmed all operational details, underlining that this unique project stands as a proud milestone for the goods transport infrastructure in the region.
