Indian Railways is expanding its modern non-AC train network with the launch of a new weekly Bhagalpur-Ahmedabad Amrit Bharat Express scheduled to begin operations on August 26, 2026. This new service will significantly improve direct rail connectivity across the states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, offering vital transit links to major economic and cultural hubs including Ahmedabad and Kota. The Railway Board has officially finalized the route and designated Tundla Junction in Firozabad as a scheduled stop, a decision that has been warmly welcomed by local passenger representatives including Shri Krishna Gautam from the North Central Railway Regional Rail User Advisory Committee.
Schedule and Route Details
According to the officially approved timetable, the train will depart from Ahmedabad every Wednesday at 6:30 PM and arrive at Tundla Junction at 10:40 AM on Thursdays. For the return direction, the service is slated to leave Bhagalpur on Fridays at 4:45 PM, reaching Tundla at 11:25 AM on Saturdays. Along its extensive cross-country journey, the Amrit Bharat Express will halt at several key stations, ensuring seamless travel options for regional passengers. The approved major stops include Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, Subedarganj, Govindpuri, Tundla, Agra Idgah, Kota, Ratlam, and Chhayapuri.
Modern Amenities and Train Technology
Designed specifically for budget-conscious travellers, the Amrit Bharat Express fleet features a fully non-AC configuration consisting of General Second Class and Sleeper Class coaches, a pantry car, and dedicated luggage-cum-Divyangjan coaches for passengers with disabilities. Utilising advanced push-pull technology powered by two locomotives, these modern trains are capable of operating at speeds between 110 and 130 kmph. Passengers can also enjoy a range of passenger-friendly amenities onboard, such as USB charging sockets, emergency talk-back systems, and sealed gangways for a safer and more comfortable journey. Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw has previously reported that the Amrit Bharat service has achieved over 100% occupancy during the 2025-26 fiscal year, demonstrating massive public demand for these affordable and upgraded long-distance train services.
