Northern Railway has started a new parcel train service called Joint Parcel Product-Rapid Cargo Service (JPP-RCS) between Delhi and Kashmir. This service began regular operations on April 17, 2026, and will run on an experimental basis until May 31, 2026. The train connects Adarsh Nagar in Delhi with Budgam in central Kashmir to help local traders and farmers.
ℹ: Indian Railways Break Journey Rule: Travel to multiple cities on a single ticket, check eligibility।
What are the key details of the JPP-RCS train service?
- Route: Runs between Adarsh Nagar (Delhi) and Budgam (Kashmir).
- Operation: Managed by the Jammu Division of Northern Railway.
- Capacity: Can carry 23 to 24 tonnes of apples and perishable goods daily.
- Composition: Consists of eight parcel vans and one seating-cum-luggage rack.
- Stoppages: Scheduled halts at Bari Brahmana and Ambala Cantt for loading and unloading.
How will this service benefit farmers and traders?
The train provides a faster way to move goods compared to road transport, completing the journey in 23-24 hours. This ensures that perishable items like apples and cherries stay fresh. Senior DCM Uchit Singhal stated that the goal is to provide a safe and affordable transport method for fruit growers and handicraft traders.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha mentioned that this move will lower logistics costs and create new opportunities for entrepreneurs. Local products such as saffron, walnuts, Pashmina shawls, and handicrafts will now reach national markets more quickly, which will help strengthen the economy of Jammu and Kashmir.
