Indian Railways has reached a significant milestone in passenger infrastructure with the inauguration of the redeveloped Narwana and Kalka railway stations in Haryana. These stations were among the 75 railway stations across 20 states unveiled virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 17, 2026. As part of the ongoing Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the initiative aims to transform the passenger experience by providing barrier-free access, modern amenities, and smarter, more efficient station layouts.
- Narwana Railway Station underwent a major transformation at a cost of ₹26.88 crore.
- Key upgrades at Narwana include a new station building, modern lifts, and a 12-meter-wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB).
- Kalka Railway Station has received comprehensive upgrades to its entrance porch, waiting rooms, and parking facilities.
- Both stations now feature Divyang-friendly infrastructure, including ramps, tactile paths, and accessible restrooms.
- The event also marked the launch of the Jind-Sonipat Hydrogen Trainset Project, signaling a shift toward green mobility.
Modern Infrastructure and Passenger Comfort
At Narwana, the investment of ₹26.88 crore has completely revamped the station’s utility. Beyond the structural changes, the station is now better equipped to handle passenger footfall with ease, ensuring that the daily commute is safer and more comfortable. Kalka, a crucial transit point, has seen extensive improvements to its station building and circulating area. Passengers will notice updated entry and exit gates alongside clearer signage to help navigate the station premises. Additionally, work is currently in progress for platform surfacing and the installation of an additional lift and a second 12-meter-wide Foot Over Bridge to further streamline movement.
A Commitment to Green Mobility
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini hailed the redevelopment as a historic achievement for Indian Railways. The dual celebration of station upgrades and the introduction of the Jind-Sonipat Hydrogen Trainset highlights the government’s focus on sustainable, eco-friendly rail transport. Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Sh. Krishan Kumar Bedi emphasized that these facilities are designed to be inclusive, ensuring that senior citizens and passengers with disabilities can navigate the stations without any hurdles. From accessible booking counters to modernized waiting areas, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme continues to set a high standard for the future of rail travel in India.
