The ambitious rail manufacturing facility in Kazipet, Telangana, is rapidly approaching its operational phase, marking a significant milestone for Indian Railways’ infrastructure expansion. With 95% of the construction work already completed, the project is on track to transform the regional industrial landscape. This state-of-the-art facility is being developed at an estimated cost of 521 crore rupees and is expected to be handed over by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) to Indian Railways by August 2026, with full-scale production scheduled to commence by the end of that year.

Modern Features of Next-Gen Trains
The facility is specifically tasked with producing 200 modern intercity trains tailored for short to medium-distance travel. Each train will feature 20 coaches designed with cutting-edge safety and comfort in mind. Passengers can expect automatic doors, advanced ventilation systems, and crashworthy coach designs. Furthermore, the trains will utilize regenerative braking technology to improve energy efficiency and lower carbon emissions. To ensure a smoother ride, the coaches will be equipped with shock-free couplers and bogies, alongside two toilets per coach to enhance the passenger experience.
Expanding Manufacturing Capabilities
Beyond the intercity train project, the Kazipet unit is being built with the versatility to manufacture a wide range of rolling stock. This includes MEMU coaches, passenger coaches, trainsets, wagons, engines, and even Vande Bharat coaches. The project is being closely monitored by Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar, who has directed RVNL to maintain strict timelines for operational readiness. By leveraging the expertise of RVNL and the Integrated Coach Factory (ICF) Chennai, Indian Railways aims to bolster its manufacturing prowess.
