The Indian railway network is set for a massive infrastructure boost in Uttar Pradesh as the Union Government has officially approved a major rail project featuring a new 40-kilometer rail line and the development of a ‘New Bareilly’ railway station. Backed by a substantial budget of **₹14,926 crore**, this initiative is a critical segment of the larger 400-kilometer rail corridor connecting Ghaziabad and Sitapur, which received administrative approval in April 2026. Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) is currently finalizing the detailed project report to kickstart the construction phase.

- Construction of a 40-kilometer new rail line connecting Bhitaura to Tisua.
- Introduction of third and fourth rail lines to decongest the busy Bareilly-Shahjahanpur section.

Addressing Regional Congestion
This project is primarily designed to tackle the heavy traffic congestion on the existing Bareilly-Shahjahanpur rail section. As a vital artery for the Delhi-Lucknow, Pilibhit-Mailani, and Purvanchal routes, this corridor currently operates under immense pressure. By introducing third and fourth lines, Indian Railways aims to improve punctuality and increase the frequency of trains passing through this region.
Strategic Development of New Bareilly
Senior DCM Mahesh Yadav of the Moradabad Division confirmed that construction agencies have already begun preliminary work on the ground. A key element of the plan is the construction of a new bypass near Tisua, which will facilitate smoother movement of trains, bypassing the already crowded Bareilly Junction. To accommodate this growth, RVNL has currently identified four potential sites within the city for the construction of the ‘New Bareilly’ station.
This development is expected to transform the logistical landscape of the region, providing better connectivity for commuters and ensuring a more efficient flow of rail traffic across North India.
