Passengers visiting the Raebareli Railway Station can now use the escalators once again after they were officially restored and operational as of 4:30 p.m. on August 21, 2026, following a period of maintenance. The temporary disruption caused inconvenience to many travellers who rely on these automated stairs for easy movement across platforms. Escalators at Raebareli Railway Station resumed normal operations at 4:30 p.m. on August 21, 2026. The temporary shutdown began on August 20 due to rainwater infiltration affecting an upward-moving unit. Both escalators and lift operations were fully restored by the afternoon of August 21 following comprehensive repairs.
Understanding the Maintenance Work
Electrical Engineer S.M. Meena confirmed that the initial closure of the upward escalator was necessitated by water entry during heavy conditions. He stated that the subsequent full shutdown on Friday allowed for comprehensive repair work to be conducted safely on both units. During this brief period, lift operations were also temporarily impacted until engineers completed the necessary maintenance tasks in the afternoon to ensure passenger safety.
Future Infrastructure and Station Expansion
Historical context regarding infrastructure at the station indicates ongoing development plans aimed at improving passenger amenities. As of April 23, 2026, the railway department finalized a map for an expansion project that includes installing a new lift at the joint platform four-five and adding four additional escalators across other platforms. Previously, on March 15, 2026, the installation process for escalators on platform three-four commenced following a 93-day delay, which involved a joint inspection by various railway departments. On March 20, 2026, it was reported that the installation of an escalator designated for platform four-five was paused after local officials recommended relocating it to the foot-over bridge near the Pratapgarh rail route on platform two-three, pending a final decision from divisional authorities.
