Planning a train journey during the upcoming festive season requires extra caution as the Indian Railways has announced significant train cancellations and route diversions across multiple zones. These disruptions are primarily driven by ongoing infrastructure enhancement, safety upgrades, and third-line integration projects overlapping with the Raksha Bandhan festival period. To help passengers navigate these changes smoothly, travelers are strongly advised to verify their train status through the Rail Madad helpline at 139, the NTES app, or authorized official inquiry counters before heading to the station.

Key updates and passenger advisory points include:

  • Bina Station Yard Upgrades: Third rail line integration work from August 14 to October 15, 2026, causes 16 train cancellations and 48 diversions.
  • Festive Specials: Northern Railway introduces special trains like the Jabalpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Special (01701) and Kota-Hazrat Nizamuddin Special (09803/09804) to manage festive rush.
  • Chakradharpur Mega Block: Infrastructure work from September 25 to October 14, 2026, affects connectivity across Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Bihar.
  • Operational Adjustments: Landslides in the Kharagpur division and development works on the Kita-Silli section prompt localized cancellations and partial terminations.

Bina Station Yard and Central Zone Disruptions

The extensive third rail line integration work at Bina station yard is scheduled between August 14 and October 15, 2026. This engineering drive is categorized into pre-non-interlocking phases from August 14 to 31 and September 1 to October 12, followed by the non-interlocking phase from October 13 to 15, 2026. As a result, approximately 16 trains are cancelled while 48 services are diverted. Notable affected routes include the Dr. Ambedkar Nagar-Prayagraj (14115/14116) service from September 30 to October 15, the Gorakhpur-Pune (15029) service from September 24 to October 15, and the Patna-Indore (19314) service from September 18 to October 15, 2026. Additionally, certain trains will experience a reduced station stoppage time of just two minutes at Bina.

Regional Blocks and Route Alterations

In the Chakradharpur division, a mega block spanning September 25 to October 14, 2026, will lead to 18 train cancellations and multiple route diversions, impacting passenger movement across Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Bihar. Meanwhile, developmental works on the Kita-Silli rail section within the Ranchi division resulted in the cancellation of the Hatia-Sanki passenger services (58663/58664 and 58665/58666) on August 21, 2026. Operational hurdles caused by landslides in the Kharagpur division also forced schedule modifications as of August 21, 2026. Furthermore, four services connecting Jharkhand and West Bengal remain cancelled on August 18, 21, and 23, alongside several partial terminations.

Long-distance travel is also affected, notably the Delhi-Jaisalmer service (14087), which is routed via Rewari, Mahendragarh, Loharu, Sikar, and Ringas from August 21 to September 24, 2026.

Special Trains for Raksha Bandhan and Mela Traffic

To ease heavy festive congestion, Northern Railway has rolled out dedicated Raksha Bandhan special train operations. The Jabalpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Special (01701) departs on August 29 at 8:20 PM, while the Kota-Hazrat Nizamuddin Special (09803/09804) operates from Kota on August 22, 24, and 26, with return journeys on August 23, 25, and 27, 2026. A proposal for a Khajuraho-Nizamuddin special is currently awaiting final clearance.

Additionally, Mela Special services including the Bareilly-Roorkee (04321/04320 and 04319/04322) and Haridwar-Lucknow (04329/04330) routes will continue through late August, featuring special Raksha Bandhan trips scheduled for August 28, 29, and 30, 2026. Passengers are advised to plan alternative itineraries well in advance to avoid last-minute inconvenience.
