Farmers in Sikar, Rajasthan, have extended their heartfelt gratitude to former Member of Parliament Sumedhanand Saraswati for his instrumental role in securing the upcoming Sunderpura railway station. A delegation recently visited the former MP at his Piprali Ashram to celebrate the project, which promises to transform travel for local residents and millions of devotees alike.
Key highlights of the Sunderpura railway station project include:
- Strategic Location: The station is situated just 11 kilometers from the renowned Shri Khatu Shyam Ji temple.
- Project Timeline: Construction is expected to take 1.5 to 2 years, with an overall completion target set for 2029.
- Architectural Design: The station will feature traditional Khatu Shyam temple-inspired aesthetics, including a grand idol of Baba Khatu Shyam at the entrance.
- Infrastructure Integration: The station will be part of the Jaipur-Ringas-Sikar rail network, with land provided by the Rajasthan government.
A Strategic Boost for Rail Connectivity
The project was officially announced by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on June 21, 2026, during an inspection tour between Bikaner and Jaipur. Recognizing the massive influx of pilgrims visiting the region annually, the Ministry of Railways has prioritized this station to improve passenger amenities and reduce travel congestion. Minister Vaishnaw confirmed that essential technical works, including signaling and network integration, are the primary focus before full-scale construction begins.
Expanding the Rail Network
This development is part of a broader infrastructure push in the region. In March 2024, the government approved the 17.49-kilometer Ringas-Khatushyamji new rail line at an estimated cost of Rs 254.06 crore. Land acquisition for this critical line commenced in August 2025. According to the North Western Railway, the new line will feature two stations, including the Sunderpura halt, to effectively manage rising passenger traffic.
Once completed, the Sunderpura station will not only serve as a gateway for religious tourism but will also provide a significant economic boost to the local farming community by improving regional connectivity. With modern amenities integrated into a culturally inspired design, the station is set to become a landmark project for the North Western Railway division.
