Indian Railways has decided to run special trains on a large scale during Christmas and New Year 2025-26 due to the growing crowd of passengers. A total of 244 special trips have been notified across eight zones, with more trips likely to be added in the coming days to provide confirmed tickets and convenient travel.
The highest number of trips have been notified in different zones: 76 trips in Central Railway (CR), 72 trips in Western Railway (WR), 28 trips in South Western Railway (SWR), 26 trips in South Central Railway (SCR), 24 trips in South East Central Railway (SECR), 8 trips in Northern Railway (NR), 6 trips in North Western Railway (NWR), and 4 trips in North East Frontier Railway (NFR).
Special attention has been given to the Mumbai-Goa (Konkan) corridor, with daily and weekly special trains running between Mumbai CSMT/LTT and Madgaon. These trains will have additional seating and sleeper options for passengers traveling to Konkan, providing them with great comfort.
Special trains have also been started on busy routes in Maharashtra and other parts of Western India like Mumbai-Nagpur, Pune-Sanganer, aiming to reduce the crowd on regular trains and offer passengers a comfortable travel option during festivals.
Additional long-distance special trains are being operated on busy corridors connecting Delhi, Howrah, Lucknow, and surrounding cities in Northern and Eastern India, allowing people to easily return home or reach tourist destinations for vacations.
