Torrential rainfall caused significant operational challenges on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Kajra Railway Station in Bihar, leading to temporary suspension of train services. The heavy downpour resulted in severe waterlogging across station premises, platforms, and tracks, forcing authorities to halt train movements on the crucial Kiul-Jamalpur rail section to ensure passenger safety.

Key highlights of the incident include:

• Train operations were suspended for 1 hour and 45 minutes between 8:35 AM and 10:20 AM.

• Water levels reached approximately two feet on the tracks near Kajra station.

• Multiple trains were left stranded, including the 22948 Bhagalpur-Surat Superfast Express.

• Services resumed following intensive drainage efforts and safety inspections by technical teams.

Impact on Train Operations

Following the heavy accumulation of water, railway authorities took immediate precautionary measures. Train services on the Kiul-Jamalpur section were halted from 8:35 AM to 10:20 AM to prevent any untoward incidents. During this period, several trains were held at nearby stations. The 22948 Bhagalpur-Surat Superfast Express was detained at Abhaypur, while the Jamalpur-Kiul DMU was held at Dharhara, and the Gaya-Jamalpur Passenger was halted at Dashrathpur Station.

Restoration of Services

Abhaypur Station Manager Satish Chandra Sharma confirmed that the decision to suspend operations was taken as a critical safety measure. Engineering and technical teams were immediately deployed to the site to clear the waterlogged tracks. Operations were officially restored at 10:20 AM after thorough safety inspections ensured the tracks were fit for transit. Beyond the railway infrastructure, the relentless rain also caused widespread waterlogging in the low-lying areas and main markets of Kajra and Abhaypur, significantly affecting the daily routine of local residents. Railway officials remain on high alert as the monsoon continues to impact the region.
