Seamless Travel Between Namo Bharat Train and Metro Station
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) are collaborating to enhance passenger convenience by eliminating the need for re-checking when transferring between the Namo Bharat train and the metro station. As part of a pilot project in Anand Vihar, arrangements are being made to allow direct movement from the Namo Bharat Station to the metro station’s Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gate. This initiative aims to streamline the travel experience, saving time for passengers who currently must undergo security checks at both stations.
Current Checkpoint Challenges
Currently, passengers traveling on the Namo Bharat train must go through security checks before boarding. Upon arriving at the metro station, they face another round of checks before reaching the AFC gate. This repetitive process can be time-consuming, especially during peak hours when long lines form at major stations like Anand Vihar. Passengers often wait five to ten minutes in line, creating a significant inconvenience and acting as a barrier to the multi-modal travel concept being promoted in the region.
Proposed Direct Access to AFC Gate
To address these challenges, officials are exploring the possibility of providing direct access to the AFC gate for passengers transferring between the two modes of transport. This would allow them to bypass the security checks and access the platforms using either the National Common Mobility Card or a Ticket QR Code. The concourse levels of both the Namo Bharat and metro stations at Anand Vihar are already connected, making this pilot project feasible. If successful, similar arrangements could potentially be implemented in other areas, such as New Ashok Nagar and Ghaziabad.
