SPG Tightens Security at Varanasi Station Ahead of PM Modi’s Inauguration of Vande Bharat Express on Saturday

This article provides updates on the security measures at Varanasi station due to Prime Minister Modi’s visit and the launch of the new Vande Bharat Express train.



Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Varanasi soon, and to ensure safety, the SPG has increased security at the Banaras station. The second entrance to the station has been closed since Thursday.

On Saturday, PM Modi will flag off the new Vande Bharat Express train connecting Varanasi and Khajuraho. He will also inaugurate three other Vande Bharat trains virtually from the station.


For passengers, entry is now only through the first entrance, and the waiting area’s ticket counters are closed. Trains will not operate on platforms 6, 7, and 8 due to the preparations for the event.

The new Vande Bharat Express has eight coaches, including seven economy and one executive class, with a total capacity of 530 passengers. The inaugural train will take school children and media personnel to Khajuraho for about two hours before returning.


Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will arrive in Varanasi on Friday to review the arrangements. The train’s regular schedule has been announced, but the exact start date is still pending.
