The Railway Administration has restricted heavy vehicles from using the Kheria Railway Bridge in Agra starting Monday, June 1, 2026. This decision was taken because the bridge structure has become weak and needs urgent repairs. Only light vehicles like cars, two-wheelers, autos, and school buses are currently allowed to cross.

Why was the heavy vehicle ban imposed?

Sanjay Kumar Gautam, PRO of Agra Division, stated that the bridge was built in 1970 and is now nearly six decades old. The steel girders are badly corroded and the concrete deck slab has deteriorated, leaving reinforcing bars exposed. To prevent any accidents on this busy route, the administration installed height gauges at both ends to stop vehicles heavier than three tons.

What are the diversion routes and future plans?

Heavy vehicles are being redirected to use the Malpura Road – Rohta Canal – Gwalior Road. The Railways has also proposed a complete closure of the bridge for 90 days starting from September 1, 2026, to replace damaged spans. The following details explain the bridge’s current status:

Feature Details
Daily Traffic 1 lakh light and 40,000 heavy vehicles
Construction Year 1970
Current Restriction Vehicles above 3 tons banned
Planned Closure 90 days from September 1, 2026
Repair Scope Replacement of two spans (39.98m and 18.3m)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Which vehicles are allowed on Kheria Railway Bridge right now?

Currently, only light vehicles including cars, two-wheelers, autos, and school buses are permitted. Vehicles exceeding three tons are restricted.

What is the alternative route for heavy vehicles in Agra?

Heavy vehicles are advised to take the diversion route via Malpura Road, Rohta Canal, and Gwalior Road.
