The East Central Railway (ECR) has taken a major leap toward modernizing Bihar’s rail infrastructure by awarding a **₹74.39 crore contract** for the comprehensive redevelopment of Barauni Junction. Located in the Begusarai district, this station serves as a crucial transit hub, and the upcoming transformation aims to significantly enhance passenger amenities and station aesthetics. The project is being executed under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model.
Key details of the project include:
- Contract Value: ₹74.39 crore, awarded to Ranchi-based M/s Saryu Gautam Construction Private Limited.
- Project Savings: The final bid was 19.33 percent below the initial estimate of ₹92.21 crore.
- Timeline: The construction work is scheduled for completion within 730 days, with a deadline of July 18, 2028.
- Official Approval: The Letter of Acceptance was issued on June 19, 2026, following a tender process that concluded in February 2026.
Ensuring Quality and Compliance
To ensure the project meets the high standards expected by the Indian Railways, the ECR has implemented strict oversight measures. The Deputy Chief Engineer (Construction)-II, based at the Samastipur headquarters, will serve as the Authority Engineer responsible for project supervision.
As part of the contractual obligations, the successful bidder is required to submit a performance guarantee of ₹3.72 crore, representing 5 percent of the total contract value. Furthermore, the contractor must adhere to a rigorous Quality Assurance Plan, which includes the mandatory appointment of an independent proof-checking consultant. These steps are designed to ensure that the redevelopment of Barauni Junction is not only delivered on time but also adheres to the highest safety and structural benchmarks.
This redevelopment initiative is a part of the broader efforts by the Railway Department to upgrade key stations across the Begusarai district, making travel smoother and more comfortable for thousands of daily passengers. With the project now officially underway, commuters can look forward to a modern, world-class station experience by the summer of 2028.
