Indian Railways has officially launched state-of-the-art sleeping pods at Vijayawada Railway Station to provide travelers with hotel-like comfort during their journeys. This initiative, which went live on July 10, 2026, follows an announcement by the Ministry of Railways on July 9, 2026. These modern facilities are designed to offer a clean, safe, and budget-friendly resting space for passengers waiting for connecting trains or those arriving late at night.
Key highlights of the new facility include:
• A total of 168 sleeping pods located on Platform-1.
• Amenities such as central air conditioning, high-speed Wi-Fi, personal lockers, mobile charging points, and clean bedding.
• Dedicated women-only pods and family cabins to cater to diverse travel groups.
• Flexible pricing starting at ₹200 for three hours or ₹400 for up to twelve hours.
Comfort and Convenience for Every Passenger
These sleeping pods represent a significant leap in station modernization, ensuring that passenger experience remains a top priority for Indian Railways. The facility is not just about a bed; it is a comprehensive service hub. Passengers can manage their basic needs with ease, as the facility offers hot water, packaged meals, and soft drinks available at an additional charge.
To ensure security and streamline operations, passengers are required to present a valid train ticket and a government-issued identification card at the time of booking. Whether you are a solo traveler or moving with your family, the variety of pod configurations ensures that your privacy and safety are maintained throughout your stay.
Booking and Strategic Impact
Travelers can secure their space by booking directly at the station counter or via phone for advanced reservations. By providing this service, Vijayawada Railway Station aims to support the millions of passengers who transit through the station every month. Beyond passenger convenience, this project serves as a strategic move for Indian Railways to generate additional non-fare revenue while simultaneously upgrading the overall infrastructure of one of the busiest railway junctions in the country.
