Indian Railways has officially launched a new modern sleeping pod facility at Vijayawada Railway Station, marking a significant upgrade for travelers passing through this busy transit hub. Commencing operations on July 8, 2026, this initiative aligns with the national transporter’s mission to modernize station infrastructure by providing safe, hygienic, and affordable short-stay options. Designed to enhance the passenger experience for the lakhs of commuters who visit the station monthly, the facility also serves as a strategic move to boost non-fare revenue for the railway network.
Key highlights of the new sleeping pod facility include:
• 168 state-of-the-art sleeping pods located conveniently on Platform No. 1.
• Amenities include central air conditioning, high-speed Wi-Fi, secure personal lockers, and dedicated charging points.
• Flexible pricing starting at ₹200 for 3 hours and ₹400 for 12 hours.
• Booking is currently available via station counters or phone, with online integration expected soon.
• Mandatory requirement of a valid train ticket and government-issued ID for all guests.
A New Standard for Transit Comfort
These pods are designed to replicate a hotel-like experience, offering a private refuge for a diverse range of passengers. Whether you are a business traveler, a student, a pilgrim, or a tourist with a long layover, these pods provide a secure and economical alternative to booking traditional hotels. The pods are optimized for both short-duration rests and overnight stays, ensuring that passengers can refresh themselves without leaving the station premises.
Expanding the Footprint of Modern Amenities
This launch at Vijayawada is part of a broader expansion of passenger-centric services across the zone. It builds upon the successful implementation of similar sleeping pod models in Visakhapatnam, Guntur (January 2026), and Charlapalli. This development also complements the station’s previous efforts to improve transit stays, following the successful introduction of micro-stay air-conditioned rooms in December 2023. As Indian Railways continues to prioritize technology-enabled amenities, travelers at major junctions can look forward to more such upgrades aimed at making rail travel more convenient and comfortable.
