Passengers traveling through Uttar Pradesh and Bihar should note significant changes to train schedules between July 16 and July 21, 2026. The North Eastern Railway has announced a series of traffic blocks to facilitate essential infrastructure upgrades, specifically for the doubling and commissioning of a new line in the Gorakhpur-Unaula section. As part of this work, the Prayagraj-Muzaffarpur Express (Train No. 14111/14112) will remain canceled in both directions on July 20, 2026.
Key highlights of the upcoming railway disruptions include:
- Full cancellation of the Prayagraj-Muzaffarpur Express on July 20.
- Extensive infrastructure work scheduled from July 16 to July 21.
- A Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inspection is slated for July 21.
- Multiple express trains will face diversions, short terminations, or rescheduled departures.
Details of Rerouted Services
The infrastructure work, which involves pre-non-interlocking and non-interlocking operations, will impact several long-distance services. Notable trains affected include the Mathura-Chhapra Express (15110), Darbhanga-New Delhi (12565), Barauni-New Delhi Special (02563), Chhapra-Nautanwa Express (15105/15106), Bapudham Motihari-Anand Vihar Terminus Express (15567/15568), Amritsar-Darbhanga Express (15212), Purnia Court-Amritsar Express (14617), and Howrah-Kathgodam Express (13019).
For passengers traveling on the Mathura-Chhapra Express (15110), the train will be rerouted on July 21 via Kanpur Central, Prayagraj Junction, Banaras, Varanasi Junction, Bhatni, and Chhapra. Similarly, the Amritsar-Darbhanga Express (15212) will follow a diverted path via Roza-Lucknow, Barabanki, Ayodhya Cantt, Varanasi Junction, Chhapra Gramin, and Muzaffarpur, skipping several regular stoppages.
Infrastructure for Future Growth
According to CPRO Sumit Kumar of North Eastern Railway, these disruptions are temporary but necessary to ensure the long-term efficiency of the network. The work is focused on the commissioning of the double line between Gorakhpur Cantt and Unaula stations, which is expected to boost capacity and reduce congestion in the region. Passengers are strongly advised to check the latest train status via the NTES app or the official IRCTC website before heading to the station to avoid any inconvenience.
