The North Western Railway (NWR) has launched a strategic initiative to install physical safety fencing along the newly doubled railway tracks in Rajasthan’s Churu district. This project is a proactive measure designed to secure the upgraded infrastructure, ensuring that increased train speeds and higher traffic volumes do not compromise passenger or freight safety. By creating a robust barrier, the railway aims to prevent unauthorized trespassing and stray animal incursions, which are common challenges for high-speed rail corridors.
Key highlights of the infrastructure development include:
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 58 km Churu-Sadulpur and 46 km Churu-Ratangarh doubling projects on July 4, 2026.
- The total cost of these vital doubling projects across the region stands at approximately ₹892 crore.
- The Churu-Sadulpur section now supports train operations at speeds of up to 130 km/h.
- The 27.98 km Churu-Dudhwakhara section was successfully completed and opened by January 25, 2026.
Enhancing Operational Efficiency
Following the completion of these major doubling works, the North Western Railway is focusing on long-term sustainability and safety. The installation of fencing is not merely a precautionary step; it is an integral part of the network’s modernization. With trains now running at higher velocities, physical barriers are essential to maintaining a clear track, which directly contributes to improved punctuality and reduced delays.
Previously, trains often faced congestion, leading to long waits at outer signals. The recent doubling projects have significantly increased line capacity, allowing for smoother traffic flow across North-West Rajasthan. By securing the tracks with fencing, the railway ensures that the enhanced operational efficiency gained from the infrastructure investment is protected from external disruptions. This initiative underscores Indian Railways’ commitment to creating a safer, faster, and more reliable travel experience for passengers while optimizing the movement of freight across the region.
