Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the newly redeveloped Shamli Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, July 17, 2026. This significant milestone was achieved under the central government’s ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which focuses on modernizing railway infrastructure across India to provide world-class amenities to passengers. The project, which saw an investment of approximately 25.50 crore rupees, was completed within three years after the foundation stone was laid in August 2023.
- The station redevelopment was executed under the supervision of the Northern Railway’s Delhi Division.
- Key upgrades include a 12-meter wide foot overbridge, new lifts, and escalators for passenger convenience.
- The facility now features high-speed Wi-Fi, modern waiting areas, and an advanced digital announcement system.
- Special accessibility features like tactile pathways and ramps have been installed for persons with disabilities.
Modern Amenities and Infrastructure
The transformation of Shamli station marks a major shift in local travel standards. Passengers can now enjoy a contemporary station building equipped with state-of-the-art lighting and improved platform shelters. To address the needs of commuters, the station premises now feature an organized parking area and an enhanced approach road. Furthermore, the incorporation of green energy concepts reflects a commitment to sustainable development within the railway network.
Regional Impact and Future Connectivity
The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including BJP National Vice President Laxmikant Vajpayee and MLC Mohit Beniwal. During the event, local representatives highlighted that the station will serve as a catalyst for regional trade, tourism, and employment. Looking toward the future, there were strong appeals to extend the Namo Bharat train service (part of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor) to Shamli. Additionally, officials emphasized the need to accelerate the Delhi-Saharanpur rail route doubling project to further improve connectivity in the region. This redevelopment stands as a testament to the ongoing efforts of the Indian Railways to integrate modern technology with passenger-centric design.
