Indian Railways is set to enhance passenger comfort and safety on the popular Ranikhet Express route by replacing traditional coaches with modern Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB) rakes. This upgrade covers both the Kathgodam-Jaisalmer-Kathgodam Ranikhet Express (Train No. 15014/15013) and the Ramnagar-Corbett Park Link Ranikhet Link Express (Train No. 25014/25013). Passengers can look forward to a smoother experience starting in August 2026.
Key details of the transition include:
- Commencement Date: The service will begin from Kathgodam on August 1, 2026, and from Jaisalmer on August 3, 2026.
- Ranikhet Express Composition: The new rake will feature First AC, AC Two Tier, AC Three Tier, Sleeper, and General coaches.
- Link Express Composition: The Ramnagar link will include three AC Three Tier coaches, along with Sleeper and General class coaches.
- No Service Disruptions: The railway administration has confirmed that this upgrade is not causing any direct cancellations of these train services.
Why LHB Coaches are a Game Changer
LHB coaches are widely regarded as a significant technological leap over the older Integral Coach Factory (ICF) designs. Their anti-telescopic design is a critical safety feature, engineered to prevent coaches from climbing over or piling into each other in the event of an unfortunate accident. Beyond safety, the improved suspension system significantly reduces jerks, ensuring a much smoother ride for passengers traveling across long distances.
Furthermore, these coaches are designed for higher operational efficiency. While older coaches were typically capped at 110 km/h, LHB coaches are capable of supporting speeds up to 130 km/h. Passengers will also notice a quieter environment thanks to modern braking systems that operate with reduced noise levels.
Clarification on Recent Delays
While there have been concerns regarding recent schedule disruptions, the railway administration has clarified the situation. Any previous delays or partial cancellations of the Ranikhet Express occurring in July 2026 were strictly attributed to heavy rainfall in Rajasthan and were not related to the ongoing coach modification process. With this upgrade, the Indian Railways continues its commitment to modernizing its fleet and prioritizing passenger well-being on key routes.
