• A down-line mail train struck the passenger while he was trying to climb onto the platform.

• The victim’s identity remains unconfirmed, though authorities have recovered a logbook from his bag.

• Preliminary investigation suggests the deceased may be from Bishnupur in Bankura, West Bengal.

Details of the Tragic Accident

According to sources from the Bandel Government Railway Police (GRP), the passenger was crossing the tracks when a mail train approached the station on the down line. Upon noticing the oncoming train, the passenger made a desperate attempt to climb onto the platform. Unfortunately, he lost his balance and fell onto the tracks, where he was struck by the train and died on the spot. The impact was so severe that the victim’s personal belongings, including his bag, glasses, and shoes, were scattered across the tracks.

Investigation and Identification

Upon receiving the information, the Railway Police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for a post-mortem examination. While the formal identification process is ongoing, investigators found a logbook in the victim’s bag. Based on this evidence, police suspect he was a resident of Bishnupur in Bankura district and may have been employed at a private institution in Durgapur. The police are currently working to confirm his identity and contact his family members.

Safety Warning for Passengers

Following this unfortunate event, railway authorities have issued a stern appeal to all passengers, urging them to prioritize safety over convenience. Officials emphasized that passengers must never cross railway tracks under any circumstances and should strictly use designated foot-over bridges or authorized paths to change platforms. The authorities reiterated that the hurry to catch a train often leads to negligence of safety protocols, which can prove to be fatal.
