The Western Railway’s Rajkot Division is actively fortifying its rail network to ensure seamless operations during the monsoon season. By replacing aging structures with modern, high-capacity bridges, the division is effectively tackling the perennial challenge of waterlogging that often disrupts train schedules. Recent infrastructure developments include the successful reconstruction of critical bridges and the initiation of new engineering tenders to bolster safety and efficiency across the zone.

Key updates include:

  • Successful reconstruction of Bridge 311 at Aliyavada station yard in May 2026.
  • Rapid completion of three major bridges (309, 310, and 311) at Aliyavada within a 10-day timeframe.
  • Transition from old RCC slab-type structures to modern RCC twin box bridges.
  • New infrastructure tenders issued in June and July 2026 for PSC slab girder replacements and pipe bridge upgrades.

Modernizing Infrastructure for Monsoon Resilience

The Rajkot Division has made significant strides in upgrading its track drainage systems. A landmark achievement was the reconstruction of Bridge 311 at Aliyavada station, where an outdated RCC slab structure was replaced with a modern 2 by 1.85 by 1.56 meters RCC twin box bridge. This complex engineering task was executed within a seven-hour traffic block, ensuring minimal disruption to passenger services. According to senior officials, this upgrade drastically improves water discharge capacity, directly preventing the waterlogging issues that frequently hamper rail movement during heavy rains.

Sunil Kumar Meena, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, highlighted that these interventions are vital for maintaining fluid train operations. Complementing this, Divisional Railway Manager Giriraj Kumar Meena commended the engineering teams for their efficiency in completing the replacement of bridges 309, 310, and 311 at Aliyavada in just 10 days, a testament to the division’s commitment to rapid infrastructure modernization.

Ongoing Development and Future Tenders

Beyond the completed projects, the Rajkot Division is maintaining a strong momentum in its development roadmap. Recent e-published tenders from June and July 2026 signal a sustained focus on upgrading older infrastructure. These tenders include plans for PSC slab girder replacements and the construction of new RCC Box Bridges to replace existing pipe bridges that are no longer sufficient for modern traffic requirements.

Notably, specific tenders for new works and ordinary repairs covering the Hapa Yard area indicate that the division is prioritizing high-traffic zones to prevent potential bottlenecks. These strategic investments are designed to create a more resilient railway network, ensuring that passengers experience safer and more punctual travel, even during the most challenging weather conditions.
