Southern Railway has officially requested the Railway Board to sanction the induction of three Vistadome coaches and two LHB rakes for the popular Madurai–Guruvayur–Madurai Express. This proposal, highlighted on August 4, 2026, focuses on elevating the passenger experience by providing panoramic views of the scenic landscape, especially along the picturesque Quilandy–Shoranur route.

Upgrading Passenger Comfort and Connectivity
The initiative to introduce modern LHB coaches, initially announced by Congress MP Kodikunnel Suresh on July 16, 2026, aims to replace older rolling stock with safer and more comfortable alternatives. While the LHB transition is a significant step forward for the Madurai-Guruvayur Express, the addition of Vistadome coaches remains under active consideration by the Railway Board as of August 4, 2026. These coaches are expected to transform the journey into a tourist-friendly experience, allowing passengers to enjoy the greenery and coastal views of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Diversion of Guruvayur-Chennai Egmore Express
In addition to the proposed upgrades, passengers should note that ongoing engineering works in the Madurai division have necessitated route changes. Train No. 16128 (Guruvayur-Chennai Egmore Express) will be diverted on August 4, 5, 8, and 10, 2026.
During these dates, the train will operate via Virudhunagar, Manamadurai, Karaikudi, Pudukkottai, and Tiruchy. Consequently, the train will skip its regular stoppages at Madurai, Sholavandan, Kodaikanal Road, Dindigul, and Manaparai, while providing new temporary halts at Manamadurai and Karaikudi. Similarly, Train No. 16127 (Chennai Egmore-Guruvayur Express) will follow a diverted path on August 8, 2026. Passengers are advised to check their schedules before heading to the station.
