Indian Railways has officially sanctioned a new weekly Amrit Bharat Express service connecting Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in Mumbai. This strategic addition aims to provide an affordable and comfortable travel option for pilgrims, students, and migrant workers traveling between these two major cities. Key highlights of the new service include:
• Train number 20436 will depart from Prayagraj every Friday.
• Train number 20435 will depart from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus every Saturday.
• The route includes major stoppages at Satna, Jabalpur, Itarsi, Bhusaval, and Kalyan.
• This service is part of a broader national initiative to introduce seven new Amrit Bharat Express routes to improve inter-state connectivity.
Connecting Two Economic and Cultural Hubs
The introduction of this train addresses the high passenger demand on one of India’s most significant rail corridors. Prayagraj, a city of immense religious and administrative importance, sees a massive influx of visitors throughout the year. By connecting it directly to Mumbai—the financial heart of the country—the Railway Board is facilitating easier movement for thousands who travel for work, education, and tourism. The Amrit Bharat Express is specifically designed to offer a modern, efficient, and cost-effective travel experience, filling a critical gap in the existing train network.
Route and Operational Details
By incorporating strategic halts at key junctions like Jabalpur and Itarsi, the train ensures that passengers from across Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra can also benefit from the service. The choice of departure days—Friday from Prayagraj and Saturday from Mumbai—is particularly convenient for weekend travelers and those planning short-term stays in the financial capital.
This announcement, which follows reports from mid-August 2026, reflects the ongoing commitment of the Indian Railways to modernize its fleet and expand its reach. As the railway network continues to grow, the Prayagraj-LTT Amrit Bharat Express is set to become a vital artery for the country, easing the burden on existing overcrowded services and ensuring that long-distance rail travel remains accessible for everyone.
