Passengers planning to travel between Delhi and Jaisalmer need to take note of a temporary route change announced by the North Western Railway. The service diversion is effective from August 21, 2026, through September 24, 2026, to accommodate crucial infrastructure upgrades. The temporary adjustment allows railway authorities to safely carry out vital double-tracking construction work along the busy Phulera-Ringas-Rewari rail section.
- Temporary Diversion Period: August 21 to September 24, 2026
- Reason: Double-tracking construction and engineering tasks
- New Route: Via Rewari-Mahendragarh-Loharu-Sikar and Ringas
- New Halts: Mahendragarh, Loharu, Chidawa, Jhunjhunu, Nawalgarh, and Sikar
Reason Behind the Rail Traffic Adjustment
According to Amit Sudarshan, the Chief Public Relations Officer of the North Western Railway, this engineering block is essential for infrastructure development. The ongoing work is heavily concentrated between the Kund, Pali, and Khori stations. These capacity-enhancement projects are crucial for improving overall train movement, reducing congestion, and ensuring long-term operational efficiency across the busy regional rail network. While such construction work causes temporary inconvenience, it ultimately leads to smoother and faster journeys for regular commuters and tourists in the future.
New Route and Additional Passenger Halts
Due to this scheduled realignment, the Delhi-Jaisalmer train will now operate via the Rewari-Mahendragarh-Loharu-Sikar and Ringas route instead of its normal path. However, this change brings a welcome benefit for travellers from several towns. The diverted service will now include additional scheduled halts at Mahendragarh, Loharu, Chidawa, Jhunjhunu, Nawalgarh, and Sikar, providing direct connectivity to passengers from these areas who previously lacked direct train access to Delhi or Jaisalmer. Local commuter groups, such as the Dainik Rail Yatri Mahasangh in Mahendragarh, have already expressed their appreciation to railway officials for thoughtfully coordinating this alternate route that benefits local travellers.Railway authorities strongly advise all passengers planning journeys during this period to double-check their travel schedules well in advance. Travellers should consult the official IRCTC website or use the NTES app to get accurate, real-time updates regarding train timings, arrivals, and departures before heading to the station.
