Indian Railways has officially opened bookings for the new Ahmedabad-Bhagalpur Amrit Bharat Express, effective August 21, 2026. The train service is scheduled to commence operations from Ahmedabad on August 26, 2026, while the return service from Bhagalpur will begin on August 28, 2026. This new weekly service replaces the existing 09447/09448 Ahmedabad-Patna-Ahmedabad clone special train to provide improved connectivity between western and eastern India.
Key details of the new Amrit Bharat Express include:
- Replaces the former Ahmedabad-Patna clone special train for better connectivity.
- Operates as train number 19423 from Ahmedabad and 19424 from Bhagalpur.
- Comprises a total of 22 coaches built under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
- Designed for speeds ranging from 110 to 130 kilometers per hour with an estimated travel time of 36 hours and 10 minutes.
Train Composition and Infrastructure
Each train will consist of 22 coaches, featuring 11 unreserved second-class coaches, 8 sleeper class coaches, one pantry car, and two LSLRD seating-cum-luggage rake coaches with disabled-friendly compartments. Built under the ‘Make in India’ initiative by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), the train is designed for speeds ranging from 110 to 130 kilometers per hour. The locomotives for the service were designed by the Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW).
Schedule and Route Details
According to the official schedule, train number 19423 will depart from Ahmedabad every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and arrive in Bhagalpur on Friday at 6:40 a.m. Conversely, train number 19424 will depart from Bhagalpur every Friday at 4:45 p.m. and arrive in Ahmedabad on Sunday at 5:25 a.m.
Key stops along the route include Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction, Buxar, Ara, Danapur, Patna Junction, Bakhtiyarpur, Mokama, Kiul, Abhaipur, Jamalpur, Sultanganj, Kota, Ratlam, Dahod, Godhra, Chhayapuri, Anand, Tundla, Agra Idgah, Bayana, Hindaun City, Gangapur City, Sawai Madhopur, Ramganj Mandi, Bhawani Mandi, Subedarganj, and Govindpuri.
Eastern Railway officials stated that the introduction of this Amrit Bharat Express is a direct response to the rising demand from passengers traveling between Gujarat and Bihar, aiming to strengthen rail connectivity for millions of commuters.
