Tanakpur Railway Station has successfully completed the construction of two new passenger sheds as part of the central government’s ambitious Amrit Bharat Yojana to enhance traveler comfort and modern infrastructure. Tanakpur Railway Station serves as a primary transit point for pilgrims visiting Maa Purnagiri Dham. Station Superintendent Narayan Singh Rana confirmed that these new sheds provide much-needed relief and improved amenities for the large volume of devotees who frequent the station year-round.
Modern Infrastructure and Passenger Amenities
Development of the first passenger shed was finalized prior to last year’s Maa Purnagiri fair, while the second shed has recently reached completion. These ongoing upgrades are part of a broader renovation initiative, supported by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, which aims to modernize the station building with aesthetic designs inspired by traditional regional temple architecture. To ensure seamless passenger movement across platforms, the station has already integrated two operational lifts, while the installation of an automatic escalator on Platform One is currently underway. Station Superintendent K.D. Kapri noted that these technical enhancements are absolutely vital for the lakhs of devotees arriving annually, particularly during the three-month-long fair held after Holi that necessitates special train services from various cities across Uttar Pradesh.
Inauguration and Final Stages of Redevelopment
As of July 18, 2026, a formal proposal regarding the inauguration of these completed Amrit Bharat projects was officially submitted to the Railway Board. Railway management has reported that the overall transformation of Tanakpur into a high-tech railway facility is currently in its final stages of completion, promising a significantly better travel experience for pilgrims and regular passengers alike.
