Indian Railways Hyderabad Division has introduced a new safety initiative called Pink Patrol to mark the anniversary of the railways. This drone-based surveillance system is managed entirely by an all-women RPF team to monitor railway premises and MMTS services. The primary goal is to provide a secure travel environment for women passengers through real-time monitoring and swift intervention.

What are the key features of the Pink Patrol drone system?
The drones are equipped with high-end technology to ensure effective surveillance even during late hours. These include thermal imaging sensors and night vision optics for low-light conditions. The teams can transmit high-definition video in real-time to the control rooms, allowing for immediate action if any suspicious activity is spotted on the tracks or inside stations.
How does this initiative impact passenger safety?
During a month-long pilot phase, the system successfully identified 61 instances of unauthorized entry and nuisance in ladies coaches. The initiative also integrates the Shakti Saathi WhatsApp platform for direct communication with the RPF. All drone pilots in this team are DGCA compliant and have received specialized training to handle aerial security operations.
