Central Railway has officially extended the operational disruptions for train services on the Mumbai-Pune route and surrounding corridors through July 24, 2026. These measures, which include the cancellation, short-termination, rescheduling, and diversion of numerous trains, are a direct result of the major landslide that occurred on July 6, 2026, in the critical Karjat-Lonavala South East Ghat section, historically known as the Bhor Ghat.
- Landslide Impact: Severe damage occurred across all three railway lines in the Bhor Ghat section.
- Restoration Status: The South East Down and Middle lines were restored on July 14, but work continues on the third line.
- Operational Changes: Cancellations and diversions remain in effect until July 24, 2026.
- Passenger Advisory: Travellers should verify train status via the NTES app before heading to the station.
Ongoing Restoration and Service Impact
While repair teams have been working around the clock in extremely challenging terrain to clear debris and stabilize the tracks, the complexity of the damage has necessitated an extension of the current traffic block. As of July 17, 2026, the administration confirmed that while two lines are operational, the third line remains under active repair to ensure long-term safety for all passengers.
The service disruptions affect several high-profile trains. Notably, the 22157 CSMT-Chennai Express and the 22732 CSMT-Hyderabad Express are cancelled from July 18 through July 24. Furthermore, the 11041 Dadar-Sainagar Shirdi Express faces cancellations on specific dates between July 18 and July 23. These cancellations also apply to the corresponding Up trains serving these routes.
Traveler Advice and Diversions
To manage the heavy traffic load and keep the network moving, Central Railway is diverting many long-distance services through alternate corridors, including Daund, Manmad, Bhusaval, Surat, Igatpuri, and Kalyan. These diversions are essential to prevent gridlock while the Bhor Ghat section undergoes final repairs.
Railway authorities have expressed their gratitude for the public’s patience during this difficult period caused by the natural calamity. Passengers are strongly urged to check the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) app or contact the official railway helpline for real-time updates regarding their specific train numbers before commencing their journey. The railway administration continues to monitor the situation closely to restore normalcy as quickly and safely as possible.
