Train operations on the vital Mumbai-Pune corridor remain suspended until July 17, 2026, as railway authorities work to clear debris from landslides triggered by heavy rainfall. The disruption, which began following damage to tracks on July 6, has resulted in the following key updates for passengers:
- 30 long-distance and intercity trains are cancelled from July 10 to July 17, 2026.
- 200 additional MSRTC buses have been deployed to assist stranded commuters.
- Restoration work is ongoing in the Bhor Ghat section with over 1,100 personnel on-site.
- Passengers can track updates through Railway Helpline 139 or the NTES app.
Impact on Train Services
Central Railway has confirmed the cancellation of 30 services, which includes 14 daily trains such as the iconic Deccan Queen, Deccan Express, Mumbai-Pune Intercity Express, CSMT-Hyderabad Express, Chennai Egmore Superfast Mail, and the Hubballi-Dadra Express. Beyond these daily services, the cancellations also affect eight scheduled trains and eight special trains. These measures are necessary to ensure safety while repair work continues along the damaged tracks between Karjat and Lonavala stations.
Restoration and Passenger Support
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav personally reviewed the site on July 9, acknowledging the severe damage caused to the infrastructure in the Bhor Ghat section. While engineers have successfully restored one of the three affected railway lines, the challenging terrain and persistent hazardous conditions mean that fully resuming operations on the remaining two lines will take more time. The work is currently being executed on a war footing to ensure normalcy is restored as quickly as possible.
To mitigate the impact on daily commuters and long-distance travelers, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has stepped in to provide connectivity. Starting July 11, 2026, 200 additional buses will operate daily between Mumbai and Pune. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has assured the public that the state is prepared to increase the number of buses further if passenger demand surges. Travelers are strongly advised to monitor official railway social media channels and the NTES app for real-time information regarding their travel plans during this period.
