Railway connectivity in Madhya Pradesh received a major fillip as Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the newly gauge-converted Kailaras-Sabalgarh-Birpur rail section. This development marks a significant milestone in enhancing transportation infrastructure for the Gwalior-Chambal region. During the inauguration ceremony, the Minister also flagged off the extension of the existing Gwalior-Kailaras train service, which will now operate up to Birpur, providing seamless travel options for local commuters.

Enhanced Connectivity and Future Outlook
The gauge conversion of the Kailaras-Birpur section is set to be a game-changer for residents living in the remote pockets of the Morena and Sheopur districts. By providing better access to the rail network, the project will cater to the needs of more than 100 villages, facilitating easier movement of goods and passengers. During the event, the Minister provided an encouraging update on the ongoing expansion of the network, confirming that construction work on the Birpur-Seroni Road and Seroni Road-Sheopur Kalan sections is nearing completion, which will further strengthen the rail grid in the region.
Record Growth in Railway Funding and Recruitment
Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also shed light on the broader growth of the national transporter over the last decade. He highlighted a massive surge in financial support for the state, noting that the railway budget allocation for Madhya Pradesh has seen a nearly 24-fold increase. The budget, which stood at ₹632 crore during the 2009-2014 period, has been scaled up to ₹15,188 crore for 2026-27, reflecting the government’s commitment to infrastructure development. Furthermore, the Minister emphasized the human resource growth within the organization, stating that Indian Railways has successfully recruited over 5.54 lakh personnel since 2014, ensuring a robust workforce to manage the expanding network and improve passenger services across the country.
