The Danapur Railway Division is set to introduce body-worn cameras for Traveling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) to ensure greater transparency during onboard ticket inspections. This initiative, which was officially announced on July 29, 2026, aims to modernize the enforcement process and provide objective evidence in cases where disputes arise between railway staff and passengers. Key highlights of the initiative include:
- Implementation of body-worn cameras to record real-time interactions during ticket checks.
- Tender process already initiated to procure the required hardware.
- Phased distribution of cameras to TTEs following the completion of the procurement phase.
- Primary objective to resolve disputes regarding fines, ticket availability, and conduct-related grievances.
Enhancing Accountability on Board
According to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Abhinav Siddharth, the core goal of this project is to foster a more professional environment during ticket-checking operations. By capturing interactions on video, the railway administration aims to establish clear facts when disagreements occur. Whether a passenger alleges misbehavior or a TTE reports an incident of obstruction, authorities will now have access to verifiable video evidence to conduct fair and impartial investigations.
Improved Passenger and Staff Experience
Beyond investigative utility, the presence of body cameras is expected to serve as a deterrent against heated arguments. When both passengers and railway staff are aware that their interaction is being recorded, it naturally encourages adherence to official protocols and standard operating procedures. This move is anticipated to reduce instances of verbal conflict and ensure that ticket inspections are conducted with mutual respect.
As the Danapur Division moves forward with the tender process, regular commuters can expect to see a shift in how enforcement is handled. This technological upgrade reflects a broader commitment by Indian Railways to leverage digital solutions for improving passenger experience and staff accountability across the network.
