The Khairthal railway station in Rajasthan has officially entered a new era of connectivity and infrastructure following its comprehensive redevelopment under the Indian Railways’ Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The station was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 17, 2026, marking a significant milestone for the region’s transport network. The project, which saw an investment of 75 crore rupees, aims to transform the station into a modern transit hub while preserving local cultural aesthetics.
Key highlights of the Khairthal station redevelopment include:
- Expansion of the circulating area from 1,200 to 3,600 square meters.
- Construction of a 12-meter-wide foot over bridge costing 4.19 crore rupees, equipped with ramps and shelters.
- Modernized infrastructure including 4,197 square meters of resurfaced platforms and 150 square meters of extended platform shelters.
- Addition of 300 square meters of artistic wall paintings and upgraded passenger amenities like accessible restrooms for persons with disabilities.
- Approval for four additional train halts to boost local connectivity.
Enhanced Connectivity and Passenger Experience
During the inauguration ceremony, Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Alwar MP, Bhupender Yadav, expressed his gratitude to the Railway Ministry for approving new train halts at the station. These additions are expected to significantly ease travel for local commuters and business travelers alike. The station has already seen improved connectivity with the Mandore Superfast Express starting its halt on October 7, 2025, and the Shakurbasti-Jaisalmer Swarna Nagari Express following suit in May 2026.
North Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Amit Sudarshan noted that the upgrades are designed not only to provide a superior travel experience but also to act as a catalyst for trade, tourism, and local economic growth. The revamped facility now features dedicated parking zones for two and four-wheelers, along with separate, streamlined entry and exit points to reduce congestion.
Future Development Plans
Beyond the railway premises, the government has outlined a broader vision for the region. Minister Bhupender Yadav highlighted upcoming infrastructure projects, including the construction of two anicuts to bolster local water levels. Furthermore, plans are underway to improve regional accessibility by connecting Khairthal directly to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, ensuring that the town remains a key node in the economic corridor.
