After serving passengers for over a century, the historic Pisca Railway Station on the Ranchi-Lohardaga line has finally entered a new era of modernization. Established in 1907-08, the station underwent a massive transformation under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’ and was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 17, 2026. This project is part of a larger nationwide push to upgrade 75 stations to provide world-class amenities to rail commuters.
Key highlights of the Pisca Railway Station redevelopment include:
- Total project cost of ₹21 crore to overhaul infrastructure.
- Construction of a modern two-story station building and expanded circulating area.
- Addition of two lifts and a 12-meter wide foot-over-bridge (FOB) for passenger convenience.
- Expansion from a single platform to three functional platforms.
- Enhanced accessibility features including ramps and tactile tiles for persons with disabilities.
- Modern train information display systems, improved waiting rooms, and clean restrooms.
A New Hub for Ranchi Division
The inauguration ceremony, held simultaneously with other stations, saw the presence of Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar and Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth. Minister Seth highlighted that the redevelopment aligns with his vision to turn Pisca into a major hub, comparable to high-traffic stations like Anand Vihar. This development is strategically vital for the Ranchi rail division, as it is designed to alleviate operational pressure on the main Ranchi station.
Looking ahead, the station is set to play a pivotal role in regional connectivity. A 17-kilometer Lodhma-Pisca rail link is currently under construction and is expected to be completed by 2027. This link will allow freight and long-distance express trains coming from Odisha and Rourkela to bypass the congested Ranchi and Hatia stations, significantly improving train flow through the region.
Future Prospects and Passenger Expectations
Currently, six trains make scheduled stops at Pisca, but with the new infrastructure in place, the railway administration expects a gradual increase in passenger train services. The Jharkhand Rail Users Association has already begun advocating for additional connectivity, including MEMU train services between Lohardaga and Daltonganj and the introduction of special festival trains. As part of a larger initiative, the Ranchi division is currently working on the transformation of 15 stations under the Amrit Bharat umbrella to create a more efficient, safe, and passenger-centric rail network across the state.
