Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated 75 redeveloped railway stations across 20 states on Friday, July 17, 2026, under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. This nationwide initiative included the successful upgrade of 13 railway stations in Madhya Pradesh, with the Chhindwara and Junnardeo stations serving as primary highlights of the regional infrastructure overhaul. The event was attended by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who emphasized the positive impact these modern facilities will have on passenger comfort, safety, and local economic growth.
- Chhindwara station redevelopment cost: ₹17.23 crore
- Junnardeo station redevelopment cost: ₹25.40 crore
- Key features: Gondi art, digital displays, and Divyang-friendly facilities
- Focus: Enhanced safety, modern aesthetics, and improved passenger amenities
Cultural Heritage Meets Modern Infrastructure
The Chhindwara railway station has undergone a stunning transformation, now resembling a cultural museum. The station interior is beautifully adorned with intricate Gondi paintings, paying homage to the region’s rich tribal roots. Architectural elements represent local heritage landmarks such as Patalkot and Deogarh Fort. To offer an immersive experience, the station now features two grand entrance gates, a large canopy, CNC-designed decorative panels, and striking 3D artwork, ensuring that travel through the station is more than just a transit experience.
Enhanced Amenities and Passenger Safety
Both Chhindwara and Junnardeo stations have been upgraded with a focus on convenience and safety. Passengers can now enjoy spacious waiting halls, air-conditioned waiting rooms, clean restrooms, and improved drinking water facilities. The introduction of digital passenger information systems ensures travelers stay updated in real-time.
Recognizing the need for a safer and more inclusive environment, the stations are now equipped with CCTV surveillance and energy-efficient lighting. Accessibility has been a major priority, with the inclusion of Divyang-friendly facilities such as entry ramps, tactile pathways, and lifts, alongside wider foot overbridges to manage passenger movement efficiently. These upgrades not only ensure a seamless travel experience but also serve as a catalyst for boosting tourism and regional connectivity in Madhya Pradesh.
