Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Jalandhar on July 17, 2026, to inaugurate a suite of major infrastructure projects aimed at boosting connectivity across Northern India. During the event, the Prime Minister dedicated the newly redeveloped Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station to the nation and flagged off several new train services, including the Kartoli to Ambala Cantt express. These projects, which include both rail and road developments, represent a total investment of over ₹5,470 crore.
Key highlights of the infrastructure push include:
- Inauguration of the 110-year-old Jalandhar Cantt station, modernized at a cost of ₹125 crore.
- Flagging off of the Amritsar (Chheharta) – Varanasi Sant Ravidas Express.
- Launch of the new Kartoli – Ambala Cantt train (Train No. 14502).
- Inauguration of the new Daudpur Chowk-Kartoli rail line.
- Virtual dedication of 75 redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
Enhanced Connectivity and Station Modernization
The newly launched Kartoli-Ambala train (Train No. 14502) is set to become a vital link for commuters. Departing Kartoli at 8:30 AM, the train reaches Ambala at 12:55 PM. It will provide crucial connectivity with stops at Daulatpur Chowk, Amb Andaura, Una Himachal, Nangal Dam, Anandpur Sahib, Rupnagar, Morinda, Sirhind, and Rajpura. This new route is expected to significantly ease travel between the states of Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh.
Regarding the Jalandhar Cantt station, Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar noted that the project was designed to preserve the station’s historical British-era character while integrating modern passenger amenities. The upgrade is part of a broader national effort to modernize infrastructure, with the Prime Minister emphasizing that these developments are essential steps toward an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and sustainable regional growth.
Minister of State for Railways, Ravneet Singh Bittu, expressed his appreciation for the initiative, highlighting the positive impact these railway projects will have on the people of Punjab.
