Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the transformed Vindhyachal Dham Railway Station on Thursday, July 17, 2026. This redevelopment, completed at a cost of ₹23.24 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, is designed to provide world-class amenities to the thousands of pilgrims visiting the sacred Maa Vindhyavasini temple. The event was part of a major nationwide push that saw 75 Amrit Bharat stations inaugurated simultaneously across 20 states.
Key highlights of the station upgrade include:
- Architectural design inspired by the Maa Vindhyavasini Mandir.
- Modernized passenger facilities including executive lounges and retiring rooms.
- Barrier-free infrastructure for Divyangjan, featuring ramps and accessible toilets.
- Enhanced logistics with a 12-meter-wide Foot Over Bridge and modern ticketing systems.
- Revitalized surroundings with organized parking and improved approach roads.
A Blend of Heritage and Modernity
The station’s new building reflects the spiritual significance of the region, featuring temple-style domes and ornate pillars. Beyond the aesthetics, the focus remains on passenger comfort. Travelers can now benefit from improved ticketing facilities, including Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), a new PRS counter, and queue management handrails. The station also features a spacious waiting hall, clean toilets, and safe RO drinking water, ensuring a comfortable transit for all.
Infrastructure and Accessibility
Connectivity has been a major priority in this redevelopment project. The station now boasts a 12-meter-wide Foot Over Bridge designed to support future lifts and escalators for all three platforms. The exterior has undergone a complete facelift, featuring landscaped surroundings, a wider entrance porch, and an improved circulating area. Furthermore, the station is now fully compliant with Divyangjan-friendly standards, ensuring that elderly and disabled passengers have a seamless travel experience.
Project Background
This project was initially launched by the Prime Minister on August 6, 2023. Following approvals from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Uttar Pradesh government, the station was officially renamed as Vindhyachal Dham Railway Station on September 9, 2025. According to Dr. Shivam Sharma, CPRO of North Central Railway (NCR), the project marks a significant milestone in upgrading regional infrastructure. Currently, the station serves as a vital transit point, handling 22 pairs of Mail/Express trains and 3 passenger trains daily, connecting pilgrims from across the nation to the heart of Vindhyachal.
