Ayodhya Route Update: Train routes changed due to Jaunpur Junction yard remodelling

Indian Railways is carrying out yard remodelling work at Jaunpur Junction to improve rail connectivity and safety. Because of this work, several trains on the Ayodhya route will be diverted, cancelled, or rescheduled between May 4 and May 27, 2026. This project is being managed by the Lucknow Division of Northern Railway.

Which trains are diverted via Sultanpur and Pratapgarh?

Many trains will now run through alternative routes to avoid the Jaunpur section. The following trains have been diverted:

What are the cancellations and new train launches?

Train numbers 04217 and 04218 (Lucknow-Varanasi Special) will remain cancelled from May 13 to May 27. Additionally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains. The Ayodhya-Mumbai Amrit Bharat Express (22111/22112) will start regular operations from May 5, 2026. This weekly train will run from Mumbai every Tuesday and Ayodhya Cantt every Wednesday, taking about 26 hours and 20 minutes with 14 stops.

Why is the Jaunpur yard remodelling happening?

Railway officials stated that the remodelling work is necessary to ensure better operational efficiency and passenger safety. The work will be done in phases over 24 days. This will eventually lead to better connectivity for passengers traveling through the Ayodhya-Jaunpur section.
