Railway Connectivity Project: Central Cabinet approves 3 multi-tracking projects worth ₹23,437 crore

The Central Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved three major multi-tracking railway projects on May 6, 2026. These projects involve an investment of ₹23,437 crore and will improve rail connectivity across six states. The work is expected to be completed by 2030-31, benefiting 19 districts and over 8.3 million people.

Which are the key railway projects approved?

The Ministry of Railways will implement three specific multi-tracking projects to reduce congestion on busy routes. These projects will add approximately 901 kilometers of new lines to the network. The details are as follows:

What will be the impact on passengers and the environment?

These new lines will help trains move faster and safer by reducing traffic on existing tracks. Over 4,161 villages will get better access to rail facilities. The projects will also improve travel to religious and tourist spots like Mathura, Vrindavan, and Mahakaleshwar Temple. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that these projects follow the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. Environmentally, this move will reduce oil imports by 370 million liters and cut carbon emissions by 1.85 billion kg.

How will this benefit Rajasthan and other states?

The projects cover Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma described this as a gift that will turn the state into a logistics hub. He mentioned that the improved infrastructure will create new jobs and open doors for trade and industry. The focus remains on boosting the transport of coal, cement, and food grains to support economic growth.
