Indigo Airlines, India’s largest airline, is facing a major crisis at the beginning of December. The central government has hinted at taking strict action following the formation of an investigation committee by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The aim is not only to hold Indigo accountable but also to prevent such incidents in the future.

A high-level committee with four members has been formed by the DGCA to investigate the severity of the crisis at Indigo. The committee is closely examining aspects like flight cancellations, delays, ground handling, crew management, and technical issues.

At the start of this month, the DGCA ordered a 10% reduction in Indigo’s winter flight schedule to address continuous flight cancellations and passenger inconvenience. This decision is aimed at reducing operational pressure and improving service quality.

After the investigation report is received, serious consideration will be given to necessary corrective measures. The government’s priority is to ensure that such widespread disruptions do not occur again in the future.

During this time of increased passenger numbers and challenges like fog, airlines should operate more flights efficiently to avoid passenger inconvenience.

Summary:

  • Indigo Airlines facing crisis in December

  • Formation of high-level committee for investigation

  • 10% reduction in winter flight schedule

  • Necessary corrective measures to be taken

  • Efficient operations needed during busy travel season
