Passengers at railway stations will soon be able to book coolies online. The Prayagraj Division of North Central Railway is preparing to launch this facility to save passengers from wandering around platforms or arguing over rates. This move aims to bring transparency and discipline to the porter service.
How will the online coolie booking work?
Passengers will be able to book a coolie in advance through an authorized railway app or website based on their train arrival or departure time. The booked coolie will be present at the designated spot when the passenger reaches the station. A digital payment system is being developed so that passengers know the exact fare beforehand, ending the issue of arbitrary pricing.
Which stations will get this facility first?
The service will initially be implemented at major stations under the Prayagraj Division. These include:
Major Stations
---
Prayagraj Junction
Kanpur Central
Chivki
Mirzapur
Etawah
Aligarh
Senior DCM Harimohan stated that the goal is to provide better facilities to passengers. After successful testing at these locations, the railway plans to extend the service to other divisions.
What are the other similar initiatives in India?
While Prayagraj is preparing its system, other zones have also taken steps. Western Railway started a similar facility at Valsad station on April 5, 2025, with plans for Vapi and Vasai Road. Additionally, the Varanasi Division of North Eastern Railway is testing the CoolieWala App. Students from MNNIT also developed a coolie app currently being tested at Banaras (Manduadih) station, which will later launch at Rambagh and Jhushi stations.
