Indian Railways is taking proactive steps to help travellers reach home comfortably for the upcoming festival season. The Northern Railway Ambala Division has officially announced the operation of eight special trains to accommodate the significant surge in passenger traffic ahead of Raksha Bandhan. These special services are thoughtfully designed to ease travel for sisters visiting their families for the celebrations scheduled for August 28, 2026. To further boost regional connectivity, a dedicated MEMU train is also currently operational between Ambala and Nangaldam. Alongside festive specials, authorities are implementing a nationwide travel management plan from August 21 to August 31, 2026, to ensure smooth journeys across various key routes.
Nationwide Special Trains and Route Expansions
Beyond the Ambala Division, the wider railway network is rolling out several key services. This includes the Jabalpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin special trains operating under Train Nos. 01701/01702. These trains will connect important transit hubs such as Katni Murwara, Sagar, Jhansi, and Agra Cantt. Additionally, commuters can benefit from six specialized services operating between Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. These include the Bareilly-Roorkee route as well as unreserved ‘Mela Special’ trains connecting Haridwar and Lucknow for the convenience of pilgrims and festive travellers.
Extra Coaches and Passenger Advice
To effectively tackle capacity constraints on heavily crowded routes, railway authorities are attaching additional coaches to eight regular popular services. This enhancement applies to key trains like the Padmavat Express, the Ayodhya Cantt-Delhi Express, and the Sampoorna Kranti Superfast Express. According to an official Press Information Bureau release, railway officials are continuously monitoring real-time passenger demand and have indicated that further special trains may be introduced if crowds swell further. Passengers are strongly advised to double-check updated train timings, coach compositions, and station stoppages through official railway portals and IRCTC apps before setting out on their journeys.
