Indian Railways has issued the official operational schedule for Tatkal ticket bookings for journeys departing on August 22. Passengers planning to travel on this date can secure their seats starting August 21, following the standard reservation windows defined by the national transporter. To ensure a smooth booking experience, travelers should note the following key details:
- AC class booking (1A, 2A, 3A, Executive, and AC-3 Economy) opens at 10:00 AM on August 21.
- Sleeper and non-AC class booking opens at 11:00 AM on August 21.
- Aadhaar authentication is mandatory for all IRCTC website and mobile app users.
- Aadhaar-based OTP verification is now required for bookings at PRS counters and through authorized agents.
- Authorized agents are restricted from booking during the first 30 minutes of each window.
- Each Tatkal PNR is limited to a maximum of four passengers.
Important Guidelines for Tatkal Bookings
As part of the updated security and verification protocols implemented by Indian Railways, travelers must be prepared for the mandatory authentication steps. Since July 1, 2025, Aadhaar authentication has become a compulsory requirement for users booking via the IRCTC platform. Additionally, as of July 15, 2025, all Tatkal bookings—including those processed at Computerised Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters and by authorized railway agents—require Aadhaar-based OTP verification to complete the transaction.
Rules for Agents and Refunds
To maintain fair access for individual travelers, Indian Railways continues to enforce strict limitations on authorized agents. These agents are prohibited from booking Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of the opening window. This means agents cannot access the system between 10:00 AM and 10:30 AM for AC classes, or between 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM for non-AC classes.
Regarding the refund policy, passengers should be aware that confirmed Tatkal tickets are generally non-refundable. However, a full refund is processed by the railway administration if the train is cancelled or if the train experiences a delay of more than three hours at its original boarding station. For further details on the Tatkal scheme, passengers are encouraged to visit the official Indian Railways website.
