Sahibganj Gains New Train Services

Sahibganj has received a significant boost in rail connectivity with the introduction of the Sahibganj-Howrah Intercity train, fulfilling long-standing demands from the local community. Previously, during the COVID-19 pandemic, services such as the Upper India Express and Howrah-Danapur fast passenger train were halted, and fare increases had made many passenger trains comparable to express trains. Until now, there was only one train available to Ranchi, making the new service a noteworthy development for residents and travelers alike.

Community Advocacy and Support

The establishment of the Sahibganj-Howrah Intercity service is the result of persistent advocacy from local leaders and business representatives, including the Chamber of Commerce President, Rajesh Aggarwal. Numerous appeals were made to key officials, including the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), General Manager (GM), and local Members of Parliament (MP) and Legislative Assembly (MLA), as well as a letter sent to the Prime Minister. The collaborative efforts of the Railway Minister, Malda DRM, Godda MP, and Rajmahal MLA played a crucial role in making this service a reality.

Celebration and Future Prospects

The launch of the Sahibganj-Howrah Intercity coincides with Ashtami Puja, marking a moment of joy for the local population. With this new service, Sahibganj now has two trains operating on this route, enhancing travel options for residents. Additionally, there is an expectation for improved connections to major destinations, such as Delhi, following the stoppage of the Tejas train. Local social worker Bodi Sinha, a member of the Railway Consumer Advisory Committee, expressed his satisfaction with the new development and called for the addition of AC chair cars and AC 3 bogies in the Sahibganj-Howrah Intercity service.
