Misconduct by Tatanagar Ticket Examiners

Two Ticket Examiners (TTEs) from Tatanagar under the Chakradharpur railway division have been found guilty of serious misconduct related to the illegal sale of reserved seats and permitting unauthorized passengers to travel on the Vande Bharat Express. This incident occurred on May 11 during a surprise inspection led by Vineet Kumar, the Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) of the Dhanbad railway division, specifically on Train No. 1896, which runs from Patna to Tatanagar.

Investigation Findings

During the inspection, TTEs Naseem and Arjun Sahu were discovered to have allowed 11 passengers to travel without valid tickets, in addition to illegally selling two reserved seats for cash. Further inquiries revealed that ten of these passengers were traveling from Patna to Gaya, while one was traveling from Gaya to Gomoh, all without proper tickets. As a result of these violations, ADRM Kumar imposed a total fine of ₹19,500 on the unauthorized travelers.

Recommendations for Disciplinary Action

Following the inspection, ADRM Kumar submitted a detailed report to the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr. DCM) of Chakradharpur Division on May 16, recommending strict disciplinary action against the two TTEs for their violations of railway rules. Notably, this was not the first instance of misconduct for Naseem and Arjun, as previous audits had also flagged their involvement in corrupt practices. As a result, ADRM Kumar has recommended that both TTEs face SF-5 disciplinary proceedings, which address grave misconduct or corruption within railway services. Additionally, an AC staff member was also identified for dereliction of duty during the inspection, prompting calls for action against him as well.
