Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to flag off the first Vande Bharat sleeper train on January 17. This train will run from Howrah, near Kolkata, to Kamakhya in Guwahati, connecting Eastern and Northeastern India more efficiently.

The Vande Bharat sleeper train will have special quotas for women, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals, just like other trains. Additionally, there will be a quota for railway staff on duty.


Passengers will find various modern amenities in the train, including emergency talk-back systems, CCTV, and improved sanitation technology. In case of ticket cancellations, refunds will be processed digitally within 24 hours, promoting hassle-free transactions.

As for ticket prices, the fare for third AC from Howrah to Kamakhya is set at ₹2,299, which is a bit more than the Rajdhani Express, but lower than its third AC fare. For other routes, fares vary, such as ₹1,334 to New Jalpaiguri and ₹960 to Malda Town.


The first AC fare from Howrah to Kamakhya will be ₹3,640, and passengers will need to pay an additional 5% GST on their tickets. The minimum distance for fare calculation on this premium train is 400 kilometers.
