Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Tarakeshwar in the Hooghly district of West Bengal on June 20, 2026. During this visit, he will dedicate several rail projects worth approximately ₹590 crore to the nation. These projects focus on improving healthcare, safety, and overall rail connectivity for the people of the state.

What are the key projects being launched today?

The Prime Minister will dedicate the Sankrail-Santragachi link line project in Howrah district to the public. Additionally, the foundation stone will be laid for a new 300-bed divisional railway hospital in Howrah. A new road overbridge between Howrah and Radha Mohanpur in Purba Medinipur will also be started to reduce traffic congestion.

Recent approvals for rail connectivity

The Rail Ministry recently approved the doubling of the New Jalpaiguri-Siliguri line and the operation of the Santragachi-Khatipura Express. Furthermore, a final location survey for the 107 km Shalvany-Adra third railway line is underway to increase capacity. The government allocated ₹14,205 crore for the state for the 2026-27 period.
