The Agra Railway Division has started a massive plantation drive along its railway tracks. This initiative is part of the Van Mahotsav celebrations held from July 1 to July 7. The main goal is to improve the beauty of the tracks and create a natural barrier to stop cattle from entering the railway lines.

Where will the trees be planted and how many?

Agra Railway Division has a target to plant 16,000 saplings this year. These plants will be placed along three major sections to ensure safety and greenery. To make sure the plants survive, the railway will use geo-tagging for monitoring and assign specific staff members to take care of them.

Section Name Purpose
Agra-Dholpur Safety and Greenery
Agra-Delhi-Mathura Safety and Greenery
Agra-Palwal-Bharatpur Safety and Greenery

How will this stop train accidents and save money?

Cattle run-over incidents cause significant delays and financial losses for the railways. Between December 2025 and April 2026, many such accidents were recorded on the Agra-Mathura, Agra-Palwal, and Agra-Dholpur routes. Every time a train stops due to an animal on the track, the railway spends between 12,000 to 24,000 rupees extra.

What is the overall target for the district?

This railway drive is part of a larger district-wide effort. According to Forest Conservator Dr. Anil Kumar Patel, 27 different departments in the district are working together. Their combined goal is to plant 53.94 lakh saplings during the Van Mahotsav week to increase the overall green cover of the region.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why is Agra Railway Division planting trees along the tracks?

The goal is to increase beauty, provide a better view for passengers, and create a natural fence to stop cattle from entering tracks, which reduces accidents.

What is the financial impact of cattle accidents on trains?

Each time a train is forced to stop due to cattle on the track, it causes operational delays and costs the railway between 12,000 to 24,000 rupees.
