Persistent heavy rainfall has severely disrupted train operations across Mumbai’s rail network between July 22 and July 24, 2026. Both Western and Central Railways are grappling with waterlogging, rising river levels near tracks, and the need for emergency maintenance, leading to significant service adjustments for suburban and long-distance passengers. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) remains on high alert, with a red alert issued for Palghar and an orange alert for Mumbai and Thane.
- Western Railway: Major disruptions on the Mumbai-Gujarat corridor due to tracks exceeding danger marks near Gholvad and Umergam.
- Central Railway: Diversions and cancellations reported on the Pune-Mumbai route and between Karjat and Lonavala due to heavy downpours.
- Impact: Numerous long-distance and suburban trains are canceled, short-terminated, or diverted to ensure passenger safety.
Western Railway Service Disruptions
The Western Railway network is facing critical challenges as water levels on a vital bridge between Gholvad and Umergam have risen beyond safety limits. Consequently, several key long-distance services have been fully canceled, including the 22953 Mumbai-Ahmedabad Express, 22975 Bandra Terminus-Ramnagar Express, 20901 Mumbai Central-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat, 59039 Virar-Valsad Passenger, and 12935 Bandra Terminus-Surat Intercity Express. Furthermore, the 12922 Surat-Mumbai Central Flying Rani and 19002 Surat-Virar Express have been short-terminated. Suburban commuters are also affected, with services between Vangaon and Dahanu Road facing interruptions; for instance, the 93005 Churchgate-Dahanu Road Local is terminating at Vangaon, while the 93010 Dahanu Road-Borivali Local is originating from Vangaon.
Central Railway and Pune-Mumbai Route Updates
Central Railway has implemented strategic diversions to manage the impact of waterlogging and rising river levels. Trains such as the 22919 Chennai-Ahmedabad Humsafar Express, 09323 Khadki-Indore Junction Special, and 12218 Chandigarh-Kerala Sampark Kranti Express have been rerouted. Additionally, emergency track repair work necessitated by the relentless weather between Karjat and Lonavala has resulted in the cancellation or diversion of multiple services, including the Dadar-Sainagar Shirdi Express. Passengers are advised to check the latest schedules before heading to the stations, as weather conditions remain dynamic.
